TexARTS presents the Audition Masterclass Series
Killing the Dance Call with Kimberly Schafer

This 2 hour masterclass will teach you the industry secrets to thriving in a professional dance audition. Attendees will be taught a combination and will perform it in groups just as you would in a NYC audition. Dancers will receive feedback on what worked well and improvements that need to be made. The session will end with a Q and A.

Kimberly Schafer
Kimberly Schafer is an Award Winning Director, Choreographer and Educator. She received her Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance Performance from Oklahoma City University and her Masters in Theatre Education/Directing from Catholic University. Recently, she was selected to be a member of the International Dance Council CID. Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor of Dance for the musical theatre programs at Marymount Manhattan and CAP21 in New York City. In 2019, She was so honored to work and collaborate with the brilliant Tony Award Winner Andre de Shields on Sophisticated Ladies at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. She was the Dance Assistant for Tommy Tune and Chita Rivera for their US tour Chita and Tune: Just in Time. Also, she assisted Tommy Tune and Randy Skinner on the production of Lady be Good at City Center Encores. She was the Associate Choreographer/Dance Captain for Broadway Backwards at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre and has been an associate choreographer for Broadway Bares 24-26. She also spends time as a Director for Celebrity Cruise Lines based in Miami. Featured performing credits include the National Tour of 42nd Street and a commercial for Skineez Skinwear featured on a Times Square Billboard.
9 to 5, the Musical Auditions
Working for TexARTS is a large commitment, and auditioners must be available for all scheduled rehearsals and performances. The professional productions perform four to five shows per week. Shows rehearse for 2 and a half weeks with typically 3 – 4 weeks of performances.
Rehearsal times are decided prior to the first day of rehearsal.
TexARTS, located in Lakeway, TX, welcomes video submissions for the upcoming production of 9 to 5, the Musical. Local, nonunion performers who are 18 or older are encouraged to audition. TexARTS is committed to non-traditional casting and values diversity in all of its forms. We greatly encourage actors of all ethnicities, gender identities, as well as performers with disabilities to audition.

Rehearsal and Performance Schedule:
First Rehearsals start on July 17, 2023.
Performances: August 4 – August 27, 2023. Fifteen performances are scheduled. Shows at 7:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays; 2pm on Saturdays & Sundays.
Rehearsals will be held during the evenings on weekdays and during the daytime on weekends at TexARTS in Lakeway. The show will perform indoors at the TexARTS Kam and James Morris Theatre, 2300 Lohman’s Spur, STE 160, Austin, TX 78734

Submission information:
Please prepare two 32-bar excerpts no longer than 90 seconds each, one up-tempo and one ballad, in the style of the show.
For ensemble roles only, please submit a dance reel or any footage of previous dance experience.
Film your audition beginning with a slate, in front of a simple background, with no backlighting, and little ambient noise. If possible, use a secondary audio source to play the accompaniment music so that it is audible in the tape.
Submissions are due February 3. Dance call will occur Saturday, February 18 from 9am to 11am followed by principal callbacks at noon. All callbacks will be in person at TexARTS Lakeway theatre.
