TexARTS Musical Theatre Conservatory (MTC) FAQs
What’s the age range for participants?
Participants must be a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior to enroll.
How long is the session?
We’ll kick off MTC with a twelve-week session in the spring, and participants will be eligible for early enrollment at our summer intensive, TXMTW 2019.
How much does it cost?
Tuition for the twelve-week session is $700. MTC meets 5:30-9:30p on Thursday evenings January 24, 31; February 7, 14, 21; March 7, 14, 28; April 4, 11, 18, 25.
What if my student has to miss a class?
Because the Musical Theatre Conservatory students meet together as a cohort, we are not able to offer makeup classes or refunds for missed classes.
Are students required to take voice lessons to participate in MTC?
It’s not required, but we do recommend that students take voice lessons as part of their ongoing musical theatre training. If a student is not currently enrolled in voice lessons, TexARTS offers a variety of scheduled times and teachers to choose from. The MTC faculty is happy to work with participants to help them find a good fit.
What supplies, materials, and equipment are required?
Participants will need ballet shoes if taking ballet; for musical theatre dance, jazz and tap shoes are needed. Students will be provided with a three-ring binder for their audition repertoire and will
need to bring pencils and a highlighter and composition or spiral notebook to each class for note-taking.
Is the MTC only for students who want to major in musical theatre in college?
Absolutely not! It’s for any student who wants to take their musical theatre performance and auditioning skills to the next level. However, it IS a great preparation for students who do plan to apply to
college musical theatre programs and will give them an advantage when auditioning.
