Based on a story by John Dempsey and Hugh M. Murphy

This girl-loves-ghoul rock 'n' roll off-Broadway musical is set in the atomic 1950s at Enrico Fermi High, where the law is laid down by a zany yet tyrannical principal. Pretty senior Toffee has fallen for the class bad boy. Jonny. Family pressure forces her to end the romance, and he charges off on his motorcycle to the nuclear waste dump. He returns glowing and determined to reclaim Toffee's heart. He still wants to graduate, but most of all he wants to take Toffee to the prom. The principal orders him to drop dead while a scandal-seeking reporter seizes on him as the freak du jour. History comes to his rescue while a tuneful selection of original songs in the style of 50s hits keeps the action rocking across the stage.

Kooky, creepy, campy fun, Zombie Prom is packed with soupy mock-'50s sock hop- tunes and more teenage turmoil than a John Waters film. This show is slicker than Grease, smoother than Rocky Horror, and funnier than Little Shop of Horrors!

Zombie Prom will feature Musical Theatre Track members of our Emerging Professionals Program.

General registration opens on November 1st. Auditions happen on Friday, January 19, with call-backs on Saturday, January 20.  Performers must be available for all performances and technical and dress rehearsals April 6-11

Sideways Stories from Wayside School at TexARTS

Sideways Stories from Wayside School (non-musical play)

A play adapted from Louis Sachar's Wayside School Novels
Adaption by John Olive
May 2-5, 2024

Wayside School is kind of a strange place. Thirty stories high, one classroom per story - well, actually - only twenty-nine stories high  because Miss Zarves on the 19th floor doesn't exist. There are undercover substitute teachers, talking pigtails, and a cow hiding somewhere in the school. And on the 30th floor, Mrs. Gorf has been turning students into apples when they get a wrong answer. The two remaining students better think of something fast! This non-musical play captures the zaniness of the Wayside School books while resulting in a hilarious story that will appeal to theatergoers of all ages.

Sideways Stories will feature our Acting Track Emerging Professional Students and professional actors.

General registration opens on November 1st. Auditions happen on Friday, January 19, with call-backs on Saturday, January 20.  Performers must be available for all performances and technical and dress rehearsals April 27-May 1st.
