These one-week camps give your little one an opportunity to dip their toes into musical theatre through some of their favorite tunes. We offer both half-day and full-day options and two age sections of 5-8 & 9-11, which end in a mini studio performance.

These one-week camps give your student an opportunity to experience various types of fun in and around the theatre.  Depending on the camp, they can explore the techniques of stage make-up, create their own comedic sketches, learn the art of stage props or even frame their own shots for YouTube.

Students will learn about the camera itself, the basics of acting, how to frame shots, create scenes with a partner, and much more.

2 WEEK PERFORMANCE CAMPS 

Our new Two Week Performance camps are perfect for aspiring musical theatre stars with previous camp or class experience or for teens who are interested in trying musical theatre on for size! Students will gain experience in singing, learn large energetic dance numbers, make simple props & scenic elements, and act in the iconic scenes. Students will perform all that they've learned in a free showing for friends and family on the last day of camp.

Early drop off is available starting at 8:00 am at no additional charge for most camps. Late pickup is available until 6:00 pm at no additional charge for full day camps.

ABOUT OUR ACADEMY

Research suggests that students who are involved in the Arts consistently score better on standardized tests, achieve a higher level of academic performance, attend school more regularly, and receive boosts in self-esteem. Our Academy seeks to do just this by providing exposure to and training in the Theatrical Arts to all students, regardless of income or ability through a variety of programs.

TexARTS Production of Footloose Jr

Offered after school hours, provide high-quality training to students of all ages. It is here that we build the skills that thereby enhance the confidence of every student. Students develop vocal and physical presence through classes in acting, dance, voice, improvisation, stage combat, and musical theatre. Our fall session runs September – November and our spring session runs January – April. Classes typically meet once per week for an hour for

10-12 weeks.

TexARTS Summer Camp Camper

Foster a sense of community by welcoming students from all walks of life in an effort to fun and nurture a love and deeper understanding of Theatre. Students are exposed to a diverse range of disciplines. Collaboration and problem solving opportunities abound. We offer a variety of summer camps and multiple holiday camps (Spring and Winter Break, Indigenous Peoples’ and Presidents Day) every year. Camps typically run from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm with early drop-off and late pick-up options available. 

TexARTS Youth Production of Madagascar Jr

Give students opportunities to perform in a fully produced show in front of a live audience! Through the rehearsal process, exploration is encouraged and empathy is cultivated as students are tasked with stepping into another’s shoes to play a character. Perseverance is key, as no matter what, the show must go on! A variety of age appropriate shows are offered in the fall and spring with rehearsals typically happening Fridays after school and  on the weekends.

TexARTS Youth Production of Matilda

Provides a home for students who have discovered that theatre is their passion. Advanced training and performance opportunities and connections with industry professionals help students to further build skills and confidence. The EP is its own community where diversity is embraced, students are encouraged to stretch themselves, and individuals must work collectively to support one another’s growth. The EP program is a year-long commitment with auditions scheduled in August of each year.

Fall/Spring Classes

We provide high-quality and developmentally appropriate enrichment and training to students of all ages and abilities. From exploratory opportunities for beginners to world-class training for advanced students, there is a class for everyone at TexARTS!

 

We offer after-school and weekend classes in acting, dance, voice, film & TV, improvisation, sketch comedy, stage combat, and musical theatre every fall (September – November) and spring (March – May). All classes are taught by Performing Arts professionals.

ACADEMY PRODUCTIONS

Places, please! Our young artists rehearse for a semester and perform in a fully realized theatrical production (full sets, lights, costumes, and sound) in front of a live audience. Through the process, exploration and risk-taking is encouraged and empathy, resilience, and confidence are cultivated.

EMERGING PROFESSIONALS

TexARTS Emerging Professionals

TexARTS Emerging Professionals are a dedicated group of young artists looking to commit to a higher level of training and performance.  These students might be considering studying the Arts at the collegiate level or pursuing a professional career. Students will work with industry professionals  to hone their crafts, build their skills and confidence, and find their voices and identity as artists. Our Emerging Professional will serve as ambassadors for TexARTS  in and around Lakeway and the greater Austin Community.

Once the audition is completed, the student may be offered a spot in the company. Students and families will further work with our faculty to construct a specific series of classes, masterclasses,  and performance opportunities that will both challenge and excite.

The program is divided into two cohorts: The Junior Company (grades 5-8) and Senior Company (grades 9-12). Once admitted to the program, students will select a “Track” of focus: Musical Theatre, Acting, Vocal, Dance, or Technical Theatre.

AUDITIONS

Auditions happen by appointment on Saturday, August 19th, 2023

Please email academy@tex-arts.org for an appointment (former “T3” students will be granted automatic admission to the program but must still audition to determine class placement). There will be a Dance Call on Saturday, August 19th (time TBD) for students interested in the Musical Theatre and Dance tracks. 

Please Prepare

A 1-minute monologue and song (32 bars/1 minute) and return for the dance call

WHAT TO EXPECT

Once admitted to the program via audition, students and their families will meet with our Education Manager to create an individualized path of classes and performance opportunities for the year.

 

Junior company members (grades 5-8) must be enrolled in a minimum of five classes per semester, attend weekend Company Time, and perform in two productions

 

Senior company members (grades 9-12) must be enrolled in a minimum of two classes per semester, attend weekend Company Time, and perform in at least one production.

 

Students in good program standing will perform in the May Industry Showcase.

SATURDAY COMPANY TIME

Starting Saturday, September 9th, all Emerging Professionals will meet Saturday mornings from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at TexARTS. Fall 2023: Saturday, September 9th - Saturday, December 16 (no meetings November 18 or 25); Spring 2024: January 20 - May 11 (no meetings March 9 and 16). This time will be used for rep and showcase rehearsal, audition prep, ensemble building, and college and career coaching. Students will participate in multiple masterclasses led by a visiting guest artist from the industry throughout the year.

SOME SAMPLE COURSES

For a Fifth Grade Musical Theatre Track Student:

Academy classes: The Actors Process, Musical Theatre Vocals, Ballet I, Jazz I, and an elective (Acting for the Camera, Stage Makeup, Stage Combat, Improv, Hip-Hop, etc)

Saturday Company Time: Saturdays 10:00 am - 12:30 (includes professional masterclass once/month)

​

Performances: Xanadu Jr or A Texas Nutcracker, Fame Jr or Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Dance Concert, and the Industry Showcase

TUITION

Tuition for the Emerging Professionals Program is billed monthly September - May. Senior members (grades 9-12) are billed $290 per month and Junior Company Members are billed $390 per month. Tuition includes class registration (3 classes for the $290 rate or unlimited classes for the $390 rate), Saturday Company Time and Masterclasses and the Industry Showcase. Production registration is not included. A four month nonrefundable commitment is required in the fall and a five month nonrefundable commitment is required in the spring.
