Musical Theatre Voice
Robert Carrasco is a highly trained vocal instructor(17+ yrs) and owner of the Robert Carrasco Voice Studio now located in Austin, TX & Online. His mission is to “Transform Singers into Vocal Artists”. Robert believes that if you’re motivated to become a better vocal performer, regardless of your age or experience, then you can achieve your vocal goals. Robert specializes in providing customized training for each student, lasting healthy vocal solutions for a wide range of vocal problems (vocal fatigue, “cracks” in the voice, adolescent “voice change”, etc). and coaching for auditions(musicals, The Voice, universities, operas). Robert helps singers become confident artists by guiding them to strengthen and focus on their limitless vocal possibilities and not on their limitations.
Trained in the art of teaching singers through Holistic Vocology (taught by the amazing Tom Burke-NYC and Robert Sussuma-NYC), his holistic teaching style incorporates the elements of Estill Voice(a core componenet), classical and contemporary styles training, speech rehabilitation, Pilates, Yoga, Alexander Technique, dance, his professional performance experience, martial arts, freestyle skateboarding, and the Pareto Principle( the “80/20 rule”). He also holds a BM in Vocal Music Education from Chapman University in CA and was awarded a graduate Fellowship at the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana where he worked on a MM in Voice Performance.
In addition to teaching singers, he’s also a Musical Theatre and Theatre Actor, Opera Tenor, and Classical Soloist. Career highlights include: Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone National Tour (USA/Canada), Shrek in Shrek The Musical!; Gary Coleman in Avenue Q; Javert in Les Miserables(HCT); Chris in Miss Saigon(Kauai); Hunter in [Title of Show] ; Jesus de Jesus in Williamsburg! The Musical(Original Cast Recording & NYC Fringe Festival Winner for Best Musical Score ); Feste the Fool in Twelfth Night(Shakespeare in the Park); Nemorino in The Elixir of Love(LA Repertory Opera); Count Almaviva is Rossini’s The Barber of Seville(Europe). 1st Tenor in the Los Angeles Opera Chorus with Placido Domingo; Tenor soloist for Mozart’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Handel’s Messiah.
Since relocating the Robert Carrasco Voice Studio to Austin, TX last summer, he has helped coached singers successfully audition for colleges, Zach Theatre productions, and for the GAHSMTA Select Ensemble. Robert has also taught a stage combat workshop for the Texas Arts Project(TAP) summer camp and for the TexArts production of Wait Until dark. He’s also in his second year as a judge for the Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards(GAHSMTA). Currently, Robert is stoked to be working with the expert staff at TexArts teaching Musical Theatre Voice for the Triple Threat Pre-Professional Program and musical directing their upcoming 2018 production of Seussical Jr. He is now currently accepting students for private singing lessons and audition coaching at TexArts.
